Colors and sheens
The finish matters as much as the color. Here’s which sheen goes where, the colors our customers keep choosing, and how color changes the price.
Which sheen goes where
From no shine to high shine. The same teal on five boards, flat on the left to gloss on the right. Each has the same small dent: the shinier the finish, the more it shows, and the easier the wall is to wipe clean.

Flat / matte
Ceilings, low-traffic adult bedrooms
Hides wall flaws best; least washable.
Eggshell
Living rooms, bedrooms, hallways
A soft glow that wipes clean. Our default for walls.
Satin
Kitchens, bathrooms, kids’ rooms, exterior siding
Scrubbable and moisture resistant.
Semi-gloss
Trim, doors, cabinets
Hard, washable, and shows crisp lines.
Gloss
Front doors, railings, accents
Maximum durability and shine; shows every flaw underneath.

No change
Same or similar color: two coats, no extra work.
Lighter over a dark color: a tinted primer and sometimes a third coat.
Deep or bold colors: they need a tinted base and careful cut lines.
Not sure what color?
